Marja Oksajärvi Snyder

CACI Forum Coordinator

Marja Snyder, a native of Helsinki, Finland, was educated in Europe and in the U.S. She earned a B.A. in Russian and East European Studies at the University of Washington, an M.A. in Eurasian Studies at Indiana University, and an M.A. in Library and Information Sciences, (specializing in medical information), at the University of Missouri.
 
Since fall 2007, she has coordinated the Forum program for CACI. From 1997 on, she has partnered in numerous international development projects for major development banks and organizations (World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, Helsinki Consulting Group Oy Ltd, the Aga Khan Foundation, etc.). She worked for a number of years in the field of medical librarianship, but began her career as a teacher of Finnish language. For three years she taught Finnish at the University of Washington (where she created the University’s first Finnish language program, then within the School of Independent Study), at Indiana University, and, in the 1990s, for the Finnish Language School Association in the Washington, DC, area.

She speaks Finnish natively, English fluently, and has a good working knowledge of Swedish, French, German, and Spanish. She has an intermediate knowledge of Estonian as well as Russian and has, additionally, studied both Turkish and Arabic.
