Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli assumed his current leadership role in the Government of Georgia in 2005, after political and academic positions in the fields of finance, the environment, and science. He was Minister of Finance from 2000-2005, except for 2002-2003, when he was a Board Member of the Bank of Georgia. From 1992-2000, he was a Member of Parliament, serving also at various points during that time as Chairman of the Committee on Tax and Revenue, Member of the Supreme Council of the Ajara Autonomous Republic, International Secretary of the Citizens Union of Georgia, Coordinator of the Chairman's Office, and Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources. From 1992-93 he was Executive Secretary of the Georgia Greens.
Prime Minister Noghaideli graduated from Moscow Lomonosov University in 1988 and subsequently was Senior Researcher at the Research Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Georgia at Batumi and then Guest Researcher at the Institute of Geology of the Academy of Science of Estonia, Tallinn. He is currently working on a PhD in Economics at the Institute of Finance, Tbilisi, Georgia.
