Hon. Kassymzhomart Tokaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, delivered an address on Thursday, 6 July at 5 PM at the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute, Johns Hopkins' School of Advanced International Studies, 1740 Massachusetts Ave., NW.
The address was followed by a reception sponsored by the U.S.-Kazakhstan Business Association, thanks to support from Chevron Corporation, ConocoPhillips, Fluor Corporation, and FedEx Express.
Mr. Tokaev is the longest-serving Minister of Foreign Affairs anywhere in the former Soviet Union. Appointed first in 1994, he continued to 1999, at which time he was named Prime Minister. In 2002 he stepped down from that office and resumed his work as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Along the way he has written two books: Under the Banner of Independence (1997), in which he set forth the principles of Kazakhstan's foreign policy, and Meeting the Challenge (2004), a memoir. Former Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs and former U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan Amb. Elizabeth Jones introduced Minister Tokaev.
