U.S. Special Envoy for EU Affairs, Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy
In January 2008, Ambassador C. Boyden Gray was named Special Envoy for European Union Affairs having served from 2006 to 2007 in Brussels as US Representative to the EU. In March 2008, he was made Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy. He was White House Legal Counsel in the administration of George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1993 and Legal Counsel for Vice President Bush 1981-1989. His extensive background in US-European relations was an invaluable asset as he worked to make sense of the multiple issues surrounding the transmission of Caspian energy to European markets. His mission completed, Ambassador Gray will reflect on recent developments in the Caspian region and on the roles there of both the European Union and the United States.
