8-9 April - Workshop on Conflict Management and Conflict Prevention_________________________

The aim of the workshop is to discuss and develop the existing theories and concepts of conflict prevention and conflict management. The purpose is to set the stage for new research on the

concepts of conflict management and prevention through building on previous research by the Project on Conflict Management in Northeast Asia and the individual participants of the workshop. The workshop will take a general approach to existing theories with the purpose of reviewing the existing concepts and research regarding the theoretical foundation of conflict management and prevention. Although general in approach the workshop will capitalise on the participants leading expertise on Northeast Asia and thus will incorporate an evaluative perspective of the relevance of existing theories to the region.

Assoc. Prof. Hua Han from the School of International Studies, Peking University will be a visiting fellow at the program. Her research interests rest on security-related issues, such as international arms control and nonproliferation, and China's security strategy on its periphery, including Asia-Pacific and South Asia. Her stay has been funded by a scholarship from the Swedish School of Advanced Asia Pacific Studies (SSAAPS).

Weissmann will also be a Visiting Researcher and Lecturer at the China Foreign Affairs University, Beijing. Weissmann will also undertake research on informal networks, conflict management and conflict prevention.

He will also be engaged at the China Foreign Affairs University as a lecturer. Dr. Swanström will also undertake research on regional cooperation, conflict management and conflict prevention.
