'New' Security Threats in Eurasia: implications for the Euro-Atlantic space (May 19-20, 2005)

The Silk Road Studies Program is organizing a two-day open conference in Stockholm regarding the "New Security Threats in Eurasia".

In the rapid intensification of the North Caucasus conflict, energy issues in the region and instability of weak states in Central Asia are in focus. Since the geographical proximity of European Union and Asia has shrunk due to improved communication, the increased instability in the wide region is affecting entire Eurasia. The effect of the increased volatility of Eurasian region is something that has not been given attention that it deserves.

Therefore, the purpose of the conference is to converse the combined Euro-Atlantic efforts that would examine and improve region’s capacity to tackle the problem.

The participants consist out of well renowned academics and several senior analysts, thus covering the wide range of competence regarding the issues covered on the conference.
